About:

Hi! I’m Maddie Barry, an American illustrator and educator based in the Delmarva area. My work is greatly influenced by a mix nature and folklore with modern western cartoon imagery. I’m inspired by wildlife, fiber, patterns, and textures that can be seen in all my illustrative pieces.

In my work, I use a mixed media approach that always starts with digital sketches completely refined in color before being transferred in paper via lightbox. I typically paint my illustrative work using a combination of acrylic gouache, color pencil, pen, and collage. Additionally, I explore digital design and art-making on various apps, such as Procreate, Photoshop, and Illustrator to create spreads, posters, and characters with a playful use of texture and pattern, akin to my traditional works. Aside from my core practice, I also regularly engage in traditional oil painting, knitting, sewing, and sketchbooks.
